Locally rooted. Culturally driven. Clinically excellent.
Bilinguatherapy opened its doors in 2020—right in the midst of a global pandemic—driven by a deep need in our community and a personal calling to fill it. We are proud to be locally owned and operated by a Richmond native, and more importantly, therapist owned and operated.
Our founder, Tia Javier, was born and raised in the very community we serve. The inspiration behind Bilinguatherapy came from a deeply personal experience: when her daughter needed speech therapy at age 3, Tia quickly discovered there were no Spanish-speaking therapists available in the region. Despite speaking Spanish at home, her family had no access to linguistically appropriate services. Her research revealed a staggering gap—only 87 Spanish-speaking speech-language pathologists were practicing in the entire state of Virginia.
Determined to close that gap for families like hers, Tia went back to school and earned a second master's degree in Communication Sciences and Disorders, with the sole intention of opening Bilinguatherapy. She brings to the practice not only her credentials as a speech-language pathologist, but also a rich academic background as a former Spanish professor, with a master’s degree in Spanish Literature, Language, and Culture—a combination that uniquely positions her to lead a practice rooted in linguistic and cultural excellence.
